My latest box design was sent to students who were admitted to LMU but will spend the first year studying abroad. In this box we sent them a branded blanket, luggage tag, water bottle, drawstring backpack, and a personalized notecard. The theme of this box was travel so I created a vintage luggage look complete with patterned lining, drawn on latches and handles, and stickers on the back depicting the cities that students will study in. The “Make Your Mark” copy was also created by me.
LMU’s partnership with the Rams led to their training camp being on campus this year. I was tasked with creating a last minute booklet that combined Undergraduate and Graduate information (which has never been done before). I only had two weeks to put together the content and design this comprehensive booklet to hand out at the Community Practice Days. For pieces where I use our PMS colors I like to do a press check in order to make sure that there are no issues with the brand identity.
Instead of going with a company that specializes in these types of mailings, I decided to partner up with my favorite local printers in Hawthorne, California and got to work on the prototype and kit items. This is the end result and it was a huge hit with the incoming students. I designed the box, sourced and ordered the promo items, and managed the production and fulfillment. These kits were used in lieu of having an in person Orientation. Students were mailed boxes and used the contents in the box during an online Orientation.
Every year we send a gift to Early Decision students for Christmas. This year they wanted to send a hat. I began the work on sourcing hats and finding the best quality material that did not go over budget. The hard part was figuring out the fulfillment. Our local printers quoted us for a custom box that was over budget but I was able to get a sample from Vistaprint and got to work on the design. The result was a high quality mailer that did not break the bank. Also inside of the box was a personalized notecard from a student which included their headshot (taken by me).
We wanted to send admitted students a congratulatory acknowledgement without going over budget. We admit over 9k domestic students a year and even though Welcome Packets are a thing of the past, this project proved that print isn’t dead. We immediately saw an uprise in social media postings about the folder. I wanted to send students something functional and branded. By sending them cost effective, personalized folders, they were able to boast in school about their admission.
Recruitment for incoming students begins in mid August every year. I refreshed the travel brochure for Undergraduate Admission to meet the needs of students unable to find business courses by college. The majors spread became the first pages of the brochure so ensure they do not get missed.
The Transfer Admission and Enrollment Services department has been expanding since 2018. With a new website and the university amidst a rebrand, they wanted to set themselves apart from First-Year Admission. I created the first ever Transfer Guide for prospective transfer students which are handed out at recruitment fairs and events on campus. This guide gets updated every year with new information.
